Foiled by a Nor'easter

We love Dorothy Spitzer's holiday sugar cookie recipe. Only problem is that it makes several dozen more cookies than this family of three can possibly eat. Solution? Host a cookie-decorating party! We invited the Heywoods, the Buxtons, and Charlie's entire preschool class. The idea was met with great enthusiasm. Last night, Chris, Charlie and I baked not one batch, but TWO batches of Nana's cookies in anticipation of hosting 11 children and their parents.

And then a Nor'easter struck. And no one who had to drive could come.

Luckily, the Buxtons were able to slog through the snow, so we weren't completely alone with all our cookies.

102 cookies. 4 colors of icing. 9 different candies or decorating sugars. 6 tubes of decorating icing. TWO CHILDREN. (Not to mention 2 dozen bagels, a pound of smoked salmon, two tubs of cream cheese, and 2 gallons of orange juice for four adults).
Snow that turned to sleet and rain notwithstanding, a great time was had by all.

Ironically, even after Sam picked a dozen cookies to take home, and we prepared bags of cookies for all our friends who couldn't make it, we still have more cookies than we can possibly eat. If you find yourself in the 'hood, swing by and grab a few, won't you please?
