Sunday afternoon movie club

As winter drags on and Charlie's attention span increases while her willingness to take an afternoon nap simultaneously decreases, we have started watching movies on Sunday afternoons. Both Chris and I love movies - watching them in a darkened theater is best, but all three of us snuggled up on the couch under a blanket comes a close second.

So far we've watched The Aristocats, Mary Poppins, and Ratatouille (next week - Peter Pan - thank you Uncle Tom, we think Charlie is finally ready). Ever since we watched Ratatouille, Charlie has been asking if we could make it.

Sure, why not?

First two layers - eggplant and peppers:
Next, tomatoes and onions:
Next comes the fresh herbs:
Finally, garlic, salt and pepper:
After a drizzling of olive oil and an hour in the oven, it turned out great. The idea that kids will eat those things they help make is not proven true with Charlie. Under great pressure (we have a two bite rule), she ate one bite of pepper. After declaring it "very good", she also declined to eat any more. Oh well - we had fun anyway.
