Kitchen: Before and After

We are very lucky that our house has required almost no updating (save a little painting) since we moved in. We've completed two projects: a bookcase built in our bedroom, and this nifty kitchen project to take what was an empty 8 x 10' space and turn it into an awesome kitchen gathering place.

Before:

And, after:
All things art in this cabinet. Looks like it could use some organizing, no?

We wanted to go with a "farmhouse" style top on the table recognizing that it would inevitably get marker on it (see art cabinet proximity), dings from silverware, scratches from the cats (when they leap off it each time we yell at them). Our carpenter also convinced us that a lighter color was the way to go - that a table all the same color would be too heavy. It took a bit to get used to it, but now I totally agree. Oh, and it's enormous. It's never set for six, but I set it just to show its size.

With the sunshine streaming in and the breezes from the open windows, it's a lovely place to hang out and eat, read the paper, and lounge. Next project for me will be to make some throw pillows to put in the corners to make it even more comfy.Add a pillow - a perfect lounge spot.
