Charlie - Children's Memorial Hospital ER - June 25, 2010 - 10:00 pm
Ah, the Monkey Bars. I wonder how many children they take out each summer? Alas, around 7:30 last night, Charlie fell from the monkey bars, landed square on her elbow, and put a small crack in her humerus, just above the elbow. This means no swimming, no bike riding, no scooting for 6-8 weeks. But, per usual, Charlie is being a complete trooper, not complaining at all, and taking it all in stride. Her parents might be more shook up than she is. Charlie will tell you that she didn't cry once at the hospital, and frankly, she never did more than whine a bit after she fell (when she declared defiantly - "I didn't break anything."). An x-ray showed the case to be a bit different! The cast she is sporting in this picture is a temporary splint - she'll get something more "permanent" in the next 7 to 10 days.
Luckily, this is her right arm, so she's still good to go for writing and drawing pictures! It would be a very long, very dull summer if she couldn't do that!
