The Dynamic Duo - Juliet Turns One!

Dear Juliet -
I have been crafting a long letter to you in my mind all week and this is just not going to be enough, but it will have to do for now.

* * *
When you were born, your Dad and I looked at each other and said, "Didn't we already have this baby?" because you looked so much like your big sister. But now we know, kid, you are a personality all your own.
What can we say about you, our JuJu? You are intense and singularly focused and use points and grunts to get what you want. Yet, at the same time, you are so snuggly, crawling into our laps for cuddles. You laugh when we laugh, always wanting to be in on the joke. You are very Mommy-centric, which I love because I know that it's only a matter of time before you learn that Daddy is the fun parent and your allegiance will shift. Already, you are showing a very strong independent streak - you want to do things yourself.
And you can do so much! You climb stairs (actually, you'll climb anything you can get your leg up on), you can take on and off a necklace, you can climb down from the bed, up into a small chair, and love to put objects in and out of boxes. You have tried to ride Charlie's scooter, yet you cannot walk on your own (when we try to get you to stand on your own, you immediately sit down and flash a thousand-watt smile as if to say, it's not going to be that easy, people!). You understand English and Spanish, and sometimes even perform little tricks for us (Donde esta tu cabeza, Juliet?). You adore cats and dogs, yelling out for both. You have no fear of the giant dogs in our neighborhood, and you are excited every time you see Dominic. You love your sister best of all, yelling "Cha Cha" and crawling to her as fast as you can. And Charlie loves you, too - she has already declared you her best friend, and I believe it when she says it.
This is a long way of leading you into the following photographs. You were not so sure about cake and frosting until you saw Charlie had a cupcake. Then, you decided that you NEEDED to have it.
We love you, Juliet. You are a shining star in our lives, and your smiles and joy make every day beautiful.
Smooches and love,
Mommy (Daddy and Charlie too, of course)

THE CUPCAKE - A Juliet One-Woman Show
Juliet: Huh, what is this thing? Looks interesting...
Juliet: No, changed my mind. This is weird, I don't want it.
Juliet: Oh, God, Mommy, what are you putting in my mouth! Nooooo!
Juliet: Okay, okay, I'll try my own. Jeez, isn't a sister supposed to share?
And, in other birthday news, Juliet got a doll and loved it as much as we expected that she would.
Happy Birthday, Little Mama!
