Great Expectations

We had great expectations for our first-ever family camping trip .

We expected lots of New Hampshire fresh air, great food cooked over an open fire, fantastic conversation and fun with the Heywoods. And, we got what we expected. What we did not expect but also got was a severe thunderstorm warning and all the rain, hail, and wind that came with it. One minute we were looking at the clear blue sky above our picnic table, and the next I was looking at the enormous tree limb that nearly took me out.

Hours before the storm hit, all was clear. We got to work on the campsite. No worries or fears of rain here.
The fire is loaded with our dinner - awesome pockets of vegetables and chicken with smoked corn.
The troops are assembled waiting for the food...hmm..the sky is looking a smidge darker.
Here comes the rain! Dinner in the tent! We grabbed our plates and ran.In the light of day, the stick that almost hit me was bigger than I realized. Yow, that would have smarted.A sunny Sunday prevails - Alex, Ben with Elliot, Charlie, Mindy, and Sherie at Big Dan Hole.Do these people look like they were kept up most of the night fearing that their tent would either leak or blow in? Nah, camping was still fun - we'll be back again.
