Which is more shocking? Seven? First Grader?

Given her September 7th birthday and the Chicago Public School system's scheduling of the first day of school with the first day after Labor Day, Charlie is going to have to share her birthday with the first week of school for the next eleven years.  Sorry, love!

So, really, I can't figure out which is more alarming -- the fact that Charlie is seven, or the fact that's she's now a first grader.  Seven is the age of a kid.  Not a baby, a toddler, or even a little kid.  Seven is KID.  And 1st grade is an elementary school kid.  Not early childhood education.  ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

Charlie had an awesome week - fantastic birthday celebrations with friends, our immediate family, Uncle Chris (no pics - oops), and Grandma and Papa.

The festivities started with a paint your own pottery party for a few friends.  Oh, and cupcakes too, of course!

For her birthday celebration at home, Charlie called the shots:  dinner at Four Moon Tavern and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. 

And then, a few days later, brunch with Grandma and Papa.  So many days of celebration!

It's going to be a great year - how could it not be when we get to wake up every day to Charlie's smiling, shining face?

Charlie, your Mom and Dad are bursting with pride and love for you.  Best seven years of our lives, hands down.   Dance on, it's definitely a party in our house with you!
